Illustration Friday- Car

Digital Collage by Itkupilli Illustration Friday this weeks topic: Car

I think that cars today are almost the exact equivalent of the great Gothic cathedrals: I mean the supreme creation of an era, conceived with passion by unknown artists, and consumed in image if not in usage by a whole population which appropriates them as a purely magical object.

Another stunning example of your stride and style here, Itkupilli. It also fits perfectly with the quote from Barthes.

Thanks, I like this quote, but as usually image game first, and then this quote was just a lucky discovery...:)

Wow. the car is great....but the ornament on the car is fantastic. I would comment more....but I need to write a letter....
always, your kind heart shows through.....

Incredible collage Kirsi! The way that you have combined those surreal background scene of some strange street.. that beautiful (in a wabi-sabi kind of way) antique car.. and that lovely lady from another time.. A fusion of time and of senses..
I like music which weaves together different sensations as your collage does. This may sound weird, but I like to mix certain types of music, say Mozart, with some techno and Nino Rota.. all three, weaving in and out of each other..

Anyway, your collage today reminded me of this:

http://tinyurl.com/3ctq4u

Also, I forgot to mention yesterday, that I like how you followed up the lovely back of the lady with that of Jacques-Louis David's Patrocle..

Anonymous said...

Or perhaps not Patrocle... but it reminded me of that.. ;)

Anonymous said...

I said, "those surreal background scene"..

oops!

I meant "that surreal background scene"

So Kirsi, you are working today? So is Jimm.. He posted at my place that he was late for a meeting or something, so he probably won't be around for awhile...

What's with everyone working on Saturday?!

*Itkupilli* said...

Thanks Ana,

I'm very happy you like my new collage,

We have quite similar taste with music I think, my favourite is drum `n´bass, so other techno sometimes, and of course classical music, and 70's music.

I game already from work, and Jimm is having parties whole weekend...

But I'll be here. :)

Dear Heart

it is only 11:30 in the morning and I have already had two beers....I am at a friend's party now.....but everyone seems to have a computer....it is such a great day!!! I wish you could enjoy it with us.....I just found out that there is a new exhibit at the Paine Art center it sounds like something you may like..you may have to pase the link ( 'cause i am inept at making links!)

http://www.thepaine.org/

Miriam, Sue, Kevin and I are going now for a few hours and then back to the party....Jayna and Max are being too cool to join use in a little culture...but I thought it may be of interest to you and other friends here....maybe I can blog/party through the day....oops...we are leaving

Although the car is not a Cadillac, the collage makes me sing the old song of the Renegades.

My baby drew up in a brand new Cadillac...

halloo, Kirsi. kuinka aari te?

I tried to use translator, Kirsi. But I don't think it is a very good one. I am afraid to use it for fear I will really make a mess of your language.

I can see just from translator that Finnish is a very difficult language. the Latin languages seem much easier to translate into each other.I admire your skill of language even more now, Kirsi. You are a very intelligent woman.

Anyway, good evening to you, Kirsi. I wanted to write those words in Finnish, but I was not sure this translator can understand correct usage.

Also, this collage is lovely. The women all have a very similar appeal to them, although they are different women. I think it is the feeling of being alone and in wait of something or someone, that is the similar in all of your images. It is heartwarming.

Minä rakastan sinua, Kirsi.

*Itkupilli* said...

AnaB kiitos, olet ihana!

I tried that translator, I translated first your last sentenses in Finnish and then translated with translator in English:

Myos this collage is glorious. Kaikilla naisilla is this much same relish efficacy , although they ovat separate woman. Credence , that it is sentiment alone condition and hoping something or jota kuta , it is equal kaikissa kuvissasi. It is midwinter firing.

So here you see, it's not so easy, but it's always very amusing to read it. And believe me I don't misunderstand you, could be that I don't understand at all...;)

singinghawk said...

Very FUNNY, your comment at Anajo's!

I for SURE will not use that translator!!!!!

singinghawk said...

LOL! It is midwinter firing! I LOVE that phrase.

Your collage is very midwinter firing, Kirsi! LOL

Uh oh! I just went and translated back to English, what translated to Finnish and it didn't make any sense to me.
It was supposed to say: I love the image. I found a tranlaster site for you.

you tell me>???

*Itkupilli* said...

Kelly

This is really fun...if you use it to translate my Finnish text, don't believe a word...:)
And I promise if you write me in Finnish, I don't take it serious. So funny comment. Thanks!

singinghawk said...

kelly...that translation site brings you back to the other one. It is the same thing.

I think it is hopeless to find a good automatic translator for Finnish. It is too bad, because I would really like to share your language, Kirsi. Maybe little by little, you can teach us.

singinghawk said...

is "Kiitos" "thank you" in English?

*Itkupilli* said...

AnaB
Yes it is. It's said that every other language has something in common, except Finnish...so I think it's impossible to find translator...
maybe very simple sort sentenses, but still it could be whar ever.
Jimm succeeded write excellent Finnish...I wonder how he did it! :)

singinghawk said...

Well I think jimm must have a real life translator. Maybe he found a finnish friend out there in Wisconsin. I don't know how else he could do it. I guess using an online Finnish - English dictionary would be better than using automatic translator. At least you could find correct word, although grammar would be difficult. I am very impressed, Kirsi, with your ability with English! It is such a big difference -- Finnish to English. Did you learn in school? How many years did you study?

*Itkupilli* said...

Everybody studies Swedish in Finland; it’s our second official language. And then everybody has to learn at least one foreign language, which is usually English, but that could be something else too. I studied 10 years English, 9 years Swedish. 7 years German, and 3 years Latin. That was in basic school. Afterwards I studied a little bit more in technical school. So it’s not so easy. :)

singinghawk said...

Amazing! You must have a really exceptional mind, Kirsi, to have that much training in language! I am a retard in that way...most definitely a retard in language! I bow to you, Kirsi.

*Itkupilli* said...

Hey with that much learning and still I can’t do better. That’s totally normal language learning in Finland and I’m not very good at languages, really! You should hear me talking! My pronunciation is horrible!

singinghawk said...

And I bet you sound really cute when you speak English, whether you can pronounce words or not. Americans love foreign accents!

I still bow down to you, Kirsi, even if that is normal education in Finland.

Anonymous said...

I think it's great that you know 5 languages. Is that a European thing? The reason I'm asking is because I knew someone from the Czheck Republic and she knew 5 languages too. I wish I knew a few others besides English~but, I guess I'm to lazy to learn. ;)

I've also missed out on a lot. Since I was last in BloggersVille, Jimm was rumored to have been killed by Kirsi, and then it turned out that no, he was just busy having a lot of fun and enjoying the nice weather. All of this laughter and love and artwork is a wonderful way to start the day.

Kirsi, your piece of artwork here must have inspired at least a few people to take a drive today~I just got back from one and came to see if there was anything new on your page, and Jimm mentioned going for a drive...only thing is, I'm looking for off-the-beaten-path kind of drives, winding-country-road kind of drives and there are none to be found in this concrete jungle!! Aah, I should have stayed home.

*Itkupilli* said...

Kelly
I stayed safe at home, ’coz I was too tired go out. I slept very late…I think these time zones sucks.

Jimm

You know the reason of my tiredness, but I don’t blame you, I thank you. It’s very very nice to be tired…I had nice cold beer…see you later…

I found a cute message this morning from this sweet Finnish fairy..

Anajo is the only American awake perhaps? The sweet Banana seems to still be in a soft slumber. Who knows about Jimm as he has no computer at home.

Huomenta Anajo!

Nice to see you! I was bored here, but you brightened up my day.

My son’s new girl friend, who lives in an other town is going to visit us first time, that’s very nice, and since my daughters boy friend is already living with us, they have nice company…but I feel my self quite lonely…but you my friends give me so much joy….

Kirsi, I wish I was there to come and spend some time with you~I think we would have agreat time together, talking endlessly and we could discuss ideas for our clothing designs~I love your store. It looks like a cool place to visit~If I'm ever in Finland...

Kelly,

I think we must meet someday somewhere. I think we have so much in common. That would be so nice and fun!!!!

singinghawk said...

Good Morning, Afternoon, and Evening, my dear Finnish friend. I am awake now. I had a nice evening last night with friends and husband. I will be back to post more. But I must now go to Anajo's blog and everyone else and post and then respond to everyone who left comments at mine. This bloggin is getting very time consuming! But I love it, nevertheless! okay, on to the next blogger...

Anonymous said...

Kirsi, then we will do it!! Someday, someway...

singinghawk said...

whatever happened to okjimm, Kirsi? he seems awfully quiet lately. Yes, I know it's nice outside and that, but somehow the enthusiasm appears to have diminished a little, no? I think maybe we need to make some more muffins or something. He is way too distracted lately in real time world.

*Itkupilli* said...

Ana
I guess we should call 911, and tell that this man hasn’t left any comments to our blogs in last 24 hours....if they go and check what’s the matter....maybe his got a life!!!!!:))

singinghawk said...

yes, I definitely think we should call 911. What?! Okjimm has a life outside of us?! whats going on? I thought we were his life?! I mean he did give us the impression in the very beginning of our love affair with him. He was writing us poetry and singing songs and making muffins for us. And then that he was willing to cross the ocean for you and take you to restaurant and movie before laying down in the same bed! But now? I don't know...he seems awfully quiet. And yes, it is a holiday on this side of the world (when we celebrate all the brave soldiers who died for men who have too much testosterone), but how much can one possibly celebrate?

okjimm? are you ok, jimm? hello? are you there?

Anonymous said...

Ha...Ana be I have been very busy.....// This bloggin is getting very time consuming! But I love it/// boy and howdy, have you got that right!!!

and it is just fantasticaly great weather.

Kirsit.... I have been biking...a lot and hanging out with diffent family and friends...Max's best friend from when they were six was back in town....when they were little her and Max were together all the time. She was at our house constantly. Almost like having an extra daughter. We had such a great picnic at her parents house.

I was extremely tired yesterday. The weather is great again today...so I am biking again. Stopped at my friend Brian's house to vistit all my friends. I need to bike a lot. I have ten pounds of beer from last winter I need to loose.

ah...you like old cars and formula I ??? I love old cars from the 60's....I used to have a 66 Rambler..not a really 'cool' car...but boy, I sure like it! I have a very good friend who lives in Minneapolis that is a 'huge' formula I freak....he has gone to the Canadian Gran Prix a couple of times...and to the Spanish Gran Prix in think it was in Barcelona. I think racing is kinda dumb, but Steve has talking me into going to a few races. Years ago we went to the Indy 500---the race was kinda boring...but, gees, we had a great time!!

Kirsi....I want to say hi to anajo and then I must, must, must write some mail...perhaps I can come back, here, too.....I will see what kind of weather the rest of the afternoon brings.
AnaB and Kelly I will try to get back to you both as well...Kelly I am not sure about the tagging thing..

See!! Now I'm stuck talk to beautiful crazy women and will have a hard time leaving the internet...911 :) that really breaks me up!! The last time someone called 911 for me....the paramedics showed up, said I was not worth saving...and drove away!!! It will be up to my sister-friends to save me.

// (when we celebrate all the brave soldiers who died for men who have too much testosterone//
hey, that was pretty good, anaB. I knew some great guys that did not come back from Vietnam...and some...that even when the came back.....never were able to 'come back again. But that is something else....

and you guys are too!!! :)

singinghawk said...

nice to see you are still alive and we do not have to call 911. You are definitely worth saving. What would we do without your butter and love of muffins? Anyway, you need not worry about my blog or visiting there. It is enough to see you here or on Anajo's site. I have too many people to keep up with as it is now.

It is okay, if you have a life outside of blogging. I try to pretend I have one, too.

And, yes, about the vets. I have known some, too, those who never came back mentally. It is very sad. And although I have a lot of respect and love for those who had to fight in a senseless war and lose their life at a very young age (50,000 of them in Vietnam, on our side), I do not have any respect for the men who sent them there. This would include the nimcompoop we call president, today. I'm sorry, Mick, if I insult you.

LOL AnaBanana... That's twice now today that you have made me laugh with pleasure at your witty prose!

And the exchange between you and okjimm... again.. laughing inside...

And I too am drinking in some fantastically great weather... I am also drinking in some fantastically fun-to-read blog posts from every one, not to mention drinking some fantasticallly fun beer.

Okjimm, I think that racing is kinda dumb too, but my best friend is also a huge fan. So being the cameleon that I am, I've kinda become kinda fond of it. :)

I am heading outdoors too. There are some beautiful irresistible fluffy clouds and little chirping birds outside, not to mention the near perfect temperature outside right now.

I found this on Kelly's blog. I thought it was interesting...

okjimm said...

ok, kelly, lemme see if I know how to play the tag game....seven things, huh!

1 I read those stupid 'chick soup' books once in awhile...and sometimes cry and then get mad at myself for crying about some really stupid story in a 'chicken soup book

2 I really really hate broccoli

3 I am a closet historian. Ask me anything about the history of closets and I will tell you

4 when I was younger I did errands for an old Norwegian in the neighborhood. He would always try to give me $2 for running the errand....and I would always say now...He was 84. we would do a shot and a beer and forget about the $2.

5 I am developing a thing about Finland. Air fare is only $1,494... if I sell my nephews on the black market, I could raise the money.

6 aspargus is almost as bad as broccoli

7 now you know me better!

singinghawk said...

I especially like number 5.

Broccoli is good for you, okjjimm. ANd after eating so many muffins, you will need some vegetables, too. Asparagus...even better. If you just squeeze a lot of butter all over them, you might not notice the vegetable flavor.

singinghawk said...

maybe we should help him out with the airfare?

anyway, I thought he was swimming.

Anonymous said...

ANAB!!! grabbing comments from one blog page and posting them on another...... ( is that legal?)

you must be an imbalanced insane woman..... ;) that must be why we love you !!?? ;) Just be careful...I may make you eat broccoli....

//maybe we should help him out with the airfare?//

and I still have to come up with 'airport money, hotel money, tickets to the zoo, $ for some wine... maybe if I open a lemonade stand on the weekends.....

*Itkupilli* said...

I go to bed now, and Jimm could I get some muffins for breakfast?

singinghawk said...

yes, insane and a criminal.

I thought since you commented a few posts down on Kelly's blog that Kirsi and Anajo might not have the opportunity to read your very intimate secrets also.

Goodnight, dear Kirsi. Sweet dreams...may they be of butterflies, muffins, and some mystery man who enjoys broccoli and asparagus.

Anonymous said...

// some mystery man who enjoys broccoli and asparagus. //

ah,sister AnaB once again needs a competent translator... I hate broccoli and aspargus.... I love my sisters, cold good beer....and swedish pancakes made in Finland. I have had enough muffins.
I have stayed up too late with friends. Talking about Vietnam, the draft, war and art and how my friend Schultze needs to go home to his lover, Sandy. Schultze likes hanging out with the "boys" too much. I have tried, very hard, to explain to him that good muffins do not grow on trees and he needs to go home, where the heart is. He only needs a taxi. I wish I knew my true direction home. I hope to know, in the fullness of time. Knowing is ...that you will find what you most need when you do not look for it.
